BYB Blog - or (Mis)Adventures in Homesteading

Sue's first blog!

February 1, 2010

So here it is, the infamous first blog.  Better to get it right out of the way.

First, a little about us.  My husband and I both work full time jobs, he as a machine technician, me as an ophthalmic technician.  He is finishing his last semester of school to become a journeyman electrician and I work as an emergency vet tech on the weekends.  In between this, we cut our own timber, grow our own vegetables, make biodiesel and raise chickens and cattle.   My degree is in Wildlife Biology and Environmental Conservation but, as it tends to, life got in the way and I now work in human medicine (it's a long story).  To make up for the fact I'm "not using my education," we try to incorporate sustainable practices in our day to day life.

I met my husband in Colorado while searching for a job. The population (and traffic) grew by leaps and bounds in Colorado, so I convinced my husband to return home to New England with me.  We have been in Vermont for 8 years, moving into a log cabin with grand dreams of farming, hoping to allow one of us to stay home. ...
